Metade dos Minutos

Giving the body a voice.
Praising the hands and their power to transform and connect with the world and time.

Metade dos Minutos (Half the Minutes) is the project developed by artist Ângela Rocha under the theme RARE VISIONS, as part of the exhibition “Countries and Regions”.

Half the Minutes puts the visitor at the centre of the scene, as an active participant and decision-maker. In its post-pandemic vision of the future, it proposes an immersive claim for the spatial and temporal present.

The core of the proposal focuses on its tactile dimension, which today is increasingly devalued and trivialised as a mere screen activator. This reconnection with the experience of touch will be done through saturated textures, articulating a reality of visual excess that aims to revive our tactile sensibility in a matter-body-mind dialogue. The textures invade and absorb the elements of the space, developing a living organicity that reacts to the visitor’s movement.

Its labyrinth format emerges as an imperative for movement and prevents the objectification of the place, privileging the purely exploratory potential and placing the visitor at the centre of the action – inevitably in a place of possibilities – in an idea of the future that is the path and not the goal.

In an effort to create synergy and a plural future, Metade dos Minutos also includes works by visual artists Diogo Costa and Telma Pais de Faria, created specifically for this context and materialised on the doors of the labyrinth.

After a pandemic, distance became the measure of all things, wrongly superimposing the notion of danger on the value of touch.
The lack of listening to the body on a path of excessive intellectualisation prevents the frankness and delight of mere emotional sensation and full connection in being, in the here and now.

Half the Minutes is an attempt to reconnect with listening to feeling.
